Belly Dance HOW TO secrets:

When you learned how to improvise, you can select  the best combinations  from your improvising and assemble a choreography.

While watching yourself on video, you will clearly see where your choise of movement was the best, and where not.  When you see the dance on video you understand  the music better.

First count the rithm of the music, and write down each count as a dash.  It should  look like that:      _  _  _  _  _  _  _  _  _  _  _  _  _  _  _  _

                  _  _  _  _  _  _  _  _  _  _  _  _  _  _  _  _

And so on, till the end of the music.  Important: place on each line exactly  16 dashes.

Then group dashes  by 4 :

                      [ _  _  _  _ ]  [ _  _  _  _ ]  [ _  _  _  _ ]  [ _  _  _  _ ]    - 16 count line

                      [ _  _  _  _ ]  [ _  _  _  _ ]  [ _  _  _  _ ]  [ _  _  _  _ ] ... and so on ...

You will see that music is structured according to the principal of this scheme. You have to find a starting point in the music which will be corresponding to the starting point of this scheme.

For each 4 count piece of music try to write down movements which were looking good on video. You can  write just above each piece like this for example:

ChoreoWriting

It is helpful to prepare 16 count pieces of music (on computer, for example with Sound Forge or any other  audio editor) so that you can play each piece nonstop. Start to improvise  and take it on videocamera. Choose the best variant, or pick the best moments from each piece and put them together.Repeat the same procedure for each 16 count  piece of music.

In the end you will have a whole choreography written down. Now it it time to learn it. Please notice, that this is only technical movements, and the  dance still has to be enriched with smaller details and expressions, which is impossible to write down. Remember:  who you are and your state is primary, and what you are doing is secondary. Success!
