Belly Dance HOW TO secrets:
Secrets of isolations
Isolation means that when you move
your hips, your upper body does not move. And the way around, when you move
upper body, the hip does not move.
In fact, isolation is achieved not by straining the part which should
not move. If you do so, the movement will look unnatural and full of
tension. It is because our body is unable to make ideal isolations anyway,
when we move any part of the body. Our body is a whole, and any movement
will affect all other parts of the body. The right isolation is done by
skillfull compensating movement of the rest of the body. For example, if we
make a twist with the right hip to the front, we should keep our body
relaxed and only the right shoulder has to be kept in plase. When we
release the hip, we release the shoulder too. Every time you hit the hip
forward, you hit the shoulder backward, but in such a way
that the movement of the shoulder is
not really seen, and it looks just unmoved. That is how one can develop
isolation skills. If we make
figure eight, we just move our shoulders in opposite direction than hips.
But just enough to compensate the movement which moves our shoulders out of
place. Compensating movements make impression of easy
isolations, and there is no need to apply efforts to keep your upper
body unmoved in absolute position. You apply compensation movement and then
release it when nessesary. Isolations
are a dinamic process.
